Stoke chairman and
owner Peter Coates has hinted at a change of transfer policy next season.
Manager Tony Pulis was allowed an
increased budget and to bring in 12 loan signings throughout the season -
including Premiership midfielders Salif Diao, Lee Hendrie and
Patrik Berger to shore up a shaky
start. But Coates and indeed many
supporters believe the club will benefit more by pursuing permanent deals in
the future. He said: "I don't think our transfer
policy will be the same next season. "We had to take a lot of short-term
measures earlier in the season because Tony didn't get into place as manager
until late, then the season started slow and we had to liven it up.
"It was a short-term measure for a
short-term problem, but the task is still to remain competitive for next
season."
